Job Description

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.


Position Overview:





A research assistant is required to run relative-angular-momentum (RAM) calculations for the ground and excited states of atoms and small molecules using in-house code. The code is to be run on the high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure provided by the Digital Research Alliance of Canada (DRAC). The data must be collected, organized and then analyzed using Mathematica. Finally, publication quality figures and tables must be produced and the research assistant will then contribute to the preparation of a scientific article for publication.


Duties:




Calculations and data collection will be done using HPC infrastructure provided by DRAC. This will be done using a UNIX interface on machines with a Linux OS. Data analysis and figure preparation will be performed using Mathematica technical computing software.

Qualifications:




Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science at the high school level or higher. Experience with UNIX and Linux OS. Experience using DRC HPC facilities. Experience using the AMPED software package (using the RAM module specifically).

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.



The period of work will be from

July 2025 - August 29, 2025

and the estimated total hours of work will be

200 hours
