This Full-Time Research Assistant 2 position is based in Prof. Prof. Odile Liboiron-Ladouceur's research lab in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of Professor Odile Liboiron-Ladouceur, the Research Assistant 2 conducts independent and collaborative research in computational imaging and photonics, with a focus on machine learning based 3D reconstruction of scanning electron microscopy images. The incumbent contributes to experimental data acquisition, advanced data analysis, software development, academic publication, supervising undergraduate research projects, and maintaining research computing infrastructure.
Major Responsibilities
Conduct original research related to 3D reconstruction of photonics devices using SEM imaging data
Participate in laboratory imaging sessions and acquire SEM images of photonics devices
Perform advanced image analysis and preprocessing
Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning based methods for 3D reconstruction
Analyze experimental results and assess reconstruction performance
Draft, revise, and prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and conferences
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team on research planning and methodology
Provide technical guidance and training to research staff, including Research Assistants 1, Undergraduate/Graduate Student Research Assistants
Lead weekly project meetings
Support students in applying research best practices
Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
Demonstrated research experience in machine learning based image reconstruction or computational imaging
Hands-on experience working with scanning electron microscopy data or similar high-resolution scientific imaging modalities
Strong proficiency in Python for scientific computing, including experience with machine learning and image processing libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, NumPy, SciPy, or OpenCV
Proven ability to draft academic manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals or conferences
Experience supervising or mentoring undergraduate students in a research or capstone project setting
Experience developing and maintaining research software systems or web-based tools to support laboratory operations
Familiarity with Linux-based research computing environments and GPU-accelerated workflows
