Login to your McGill Workday account and apply to this posting using the Find Jobs report (type Find Jobs in the search bar).Position Summary:The Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and the Director of the Office of Arts Education are recruiting advanced graduate students for a research project to build a comprehensive database of the training, support, and orientation currently offered to Teaching Assistants (TAs) in departments across the Faculty of Arts. Through the course of this research, and literature reviews, the Research Assistants will help identify best practices and areas for improvement for TA training in the Faculty of Arts. They will work independently and in groups to conduct desk-based research, and organize meetings and focus groups with departmental leadership, undergraduate students and graduate students who have served as TA\'s. At the end of the research period, the RA\xe2\x80\x99s will write a thorough report of their findings and present their conclusions and recommendations to Faculty administration.Contribute to the creation of questionnaires to be used in meetings with Faculty and students identifying current training practices, and areas for improvementSet up and chair focus groups with members of the McGill community and lead focus groups with Faculty and student membersCompile data on existing resources for TAs across the Faculty through meetings with departmental leadership and othersResearch best practices in the latest academic literature on TA trainingSummarize large bodies of literature and synthesize findings in an end-of-project reportWrite up a report of findings and present back to Faculty administrationQualifications:Advanced Doctoral Student (ideally past comprehensive exams). Good working knowledge of McGill offices and policies (department, faculty and University-level) related to teaching, learning, and assessment. Strong track record as a TA, strong research and writing skills, ability to conduct independent literature reviews and interviews, and report findings succinctly. Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Excellent time-management skills and attention to detail. Adept at working well independently and as a team.
