The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (1-year) Research Analyst. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team of researchers affiliated with the Ontario Node of the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Matters (CRISM). As one of five CRISM Nodes across Canada, the Ontario Node (OCRINT) conducts evidence-based research aimed at improving interventions and systems for people who use substances. OCRINT focuses on prevention and treatment for substance use--primarily involving illicit drugs and the non-medical use of pharmaceutical drugs--and on the translation of research into practice and policy.


The Research Analyst will support a multi-year evaluation of British Columbia's policy on the decriminalization of illicit substances for personal possession and will report directly to the project's Quantitative Lead. This role is focused on quantitative research activities, including conducting advanced statistical analyses. The successful candidate will also contribute to the interpretation, drafting, and writing of quantitative results for internal reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.


Key responsibilities include:

Assembling, managing, cleaning, and preparing large datasets for statistical modeling Supporting the development of analytic plans and statistical code Conducting and interpreting advanced quantitative analyses used in health policy evaluation, including controlled interrupted time series analyses, difference-in-difference analyses, synthetic control analyses, and Joinpoint regression Contributing to the writing of reports, policy briefs, and academic manuscripts Contributing to the preparation of presentations Summarizing and presenting findings to diverse audiences Collaborating with stakeholders and project team members to support integrated knowledge translation


Job Requirements




The successful candidate will hold, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, science, or a related field, along with at least one year of research experience, preferably in the area of substance use. The candidate must demonstrate subject matter knowledge in addictions, drug policy, and the decriminalization of illicit drugs. Experience working in academic, research, and/or community health service settings is required. The ideal candidate will possess advanced quantitative research skills, with demonstrated experience in managing large datasets and conducting statistical analyses for health policy evaluation using programs such as R, SAS, STATA, Joinpoint Regression Program or equivalent software. Strong scientific writing skills are essential, as evidenced by contributions to academic publications and/or research reports. The candidate must also have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, have attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills, and be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. This position will be primarily remote.
