Reporting to the Senior Project Manager Ravines & Environment, this position supports cutting edge asset research that will inform project plans, and inform how best to prioritize projects, including leveraging existing budgets to greatest impact. This research analyst role will support the work plan through a diverse variety of skills and diverse experience in natural environment capital projects and natural asset project management as well as geospatial analysis. This position conducts research and analysis using data related to city-wide Parks, Forestry and Recreation natural assets, and supports infrastructure projects that connect Toronto residents to natural parkland. The Research Analyst will be part of a team that emphasises continuous learning and improvement and incorporates best practices and procedures.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Conducts research and analysis on data using data management tools of GIS, Excel and Tableau for tracking city-wide Parks, Forestry and Recreation natural assets, infrastructure vulnerable to climate change and assets that support access to natural parkland.
  • Collects, maintains and analyzes data, including geospatial and tabular data.
  • Conducts and coordinates field studies, surveys and audits as appropriate to help prioritize projects with most need and for different funding streams
  • Compiles, analyzes and correlates data and prepares reports and studies for submission to management and/or council on ravines & environment and natural asset program related matters.
  • Tracks project progress and assists in work plan development for advancing management of natural assets and capital projects that support access to natural parkland (in ravines and on the waterfront).
  • Assists with administrative support and operational duties for the Division.
  • Supports technology needs that support Ravines & Environment capital work
  • Supports project coordination of Ravines & Environment capital planning
  • Supports project tasks which support design and construction work with Senior Project Coordinators or Senior Project Managers in the unit.
  • Assists in preparation of budget information.
  • Develops and maintains statistical or strategy, analytical reports and other appropriate reports and records management for the Division.
  • Liaises with subject matter experts to gather and provide information.
  • Prepares reports and provides assistance to city and outside agencies and committees.
  • Develops, designs and delivers presentations.
  • Provides assistance and answers inquiries to/from various stakeholders.
Key Qualififcations:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: * Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function, (such as landscape architecture, spatial analysis, natural resource management, environmental planning) combined with relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable Experience conducting research, including data identification, collection, documentation and analysis, and using data management and visualization tools including ESRI GIS applications for graphically demonstrating analysis, (PFR Capital - Ravine & Environment assets are all spatially specific).
  • Experience in developing and delivering clear communications in this subject area with supporting material such as reports, memos, minutes, correspondence and presentations.
  • Experience in Project management. Managing the implementation of projects including clear methodology, organization, and sequenced tasks towards deliverables, as related to natural infrastructure projects or management of natural assets
  • Experience in word processing, spreadsheets and collaboration tools using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint).

  • Ability to understand complex data systems, and perform analysis and interpretation on them.
  • Ability to function or operate as a member of an interdisciplinary team and represent the division in a variety of situations.
  • Well-developed organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines.
Assets for the position:
  • Working knowledge and experience with geospatial software (i.e. ArcGIS, Portal)
  • Experience with data visualization software (i.e. Tableau or other)
  • Public engagement experience including stakeholder consultations
  • Understanding of Ravine & Environment landscape architecture projects (wetlands, boardwalks, forests, river trails, bridges, ravine staircases, bank stabilization, viewing platforms, nature themed art, etc).
  • An understanding of the applicable municipal strategy context and provincial regulations:
  • City\'s Reconciliation Action Plan, Resilience Strategy, Ravine Strategy, Parkland Strategy
  • Ontario regulation 166, Ontario regulation 588 (specifically how green infrastructure and natural assets are included), Ontario Regulation 191 - (AODA, Design for Public Spaces.
