General Responsibilities

  • Utilize existing financial and management systems (in particular BI/BW and SAP) to lead the gathering and consolidation of information to produce a variety of business information such as consolidated internal management reports, LOB reports and budgets, business plan, cost trends, performance reports,scorecards and monthly cost reports.
  • Lead the analysis of financial data to ensure consistency with corporate assumptions and strategies.
  • Lead and execute the forecasting process including the modeling of forecast updates.
  • Review submitted plans and budgets for accuracy and ensure consistency of budgets with approved Business Plans.
  • Coordinate and review the output of team members. Plan, allocate and coordinate work activities in the team, review team members' work and direct them on problem areas.
  • Review cost control and financial reporting procedures, assess their effectiveness and recommend changes or improvements as necessary.
  • Provide advice, guidance, recommendations and assistance to line staff and management regarding all manner of financial issues.
  • Provide business support to the LOB in project administration including release, work order and reporting activities.
  • Lead the co-ordination of special studies, costing reviews and process initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver financial presentations, as necessary.
  • Review, revise and coordinate reporting systems with a view to assessing their impact to ensure these systems reflect corporate needs.
  • Lead the collection of all pertinent data, evaluate and submit recommendations and/or findings to manager for consideration.
  • Attend staff meetings and provide guidance / be the team lead in task forces, special studies and initiatives as assigned.
  • Provide advice, guidance, recommendations and assistance to line staff and management in assessing programs and projects, reporting, staff and organization plans, cost benefit analysis, and cost allocation.
  • Mentor and coach team members to enhance skills and capabilities of the team.
  • Coordinate, collaborate and communicate with all stakeholders within and external to Distribution to ensure mutual objectives are achieved.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
  • Requires a four-year university education in business administration or commerce with an accounting or finance major. A recognized accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
  • A period of over 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Requires expert knowledge of business/financial planning, budgeting and cost accounting principles,financial analytical techniques and computer applications to develop, implement and maintain financial control systems.
  • Requires extensive experience with consolidation and forecasting models.
  • Requires wide-ranging experience with consolidated financial reporting, both internal and external reporting,including MD&A communication.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of Business Model allocations, cost centre tree hierarchies and implications for organizational changes.
  • Requires a very good understanding of financial data flows in SAP and BI/BW.
  • Requires advanced skills with MS Office applications (particularly Excel and the use of macros) to develop and apply information systems and use information from systems within the business unit.
  • Requires a good knowledge of English both orally and in writing to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders as well as to prepare reports, contractual documents, presentations, business memos, briefing materials and specifications.
  • Requires experience with the operations and objectives of all LOBs to be able to provide value-added service and recommend process improvements.
  • Requires experience in financial planning & analysis, financial evaluations, receiving and cost accounting,to prepare statements and reports, budgeting and the processing of work orders, etc.
  • Requires an understanding of the interrelationship of the various finance groups.
  • Requires experience mentoring and coaching staff to effectively lead and facilitate teams.
  • Requires experience with various terminologies associated with regulatory filings and regulatory accounting.
  • Requires strong analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills.
