Your role

The St John\xe2\x80\x99s Morning Show is looking for a Reporter / Editor based in St John\xe2\x80\x99s who will bring a vibrant and curious voice to the program. You will be live from various locations in the mornings, engaging the guests and taking the audience along for the ride. Occasionally you will gather video and interviews with your iphone for CBC video video platforms. When not going live you will create sound rich tape for broadcast working in conjunction with the morning show team.

Key tasks:

\xe2\x97\x8f Pitch, coordinate and present live cut-ins daily.

\xe2\x97\x8f Conduct engaging in the moment interviews covering a wide range of informative and entertaining content.

\xe2\x97\x8f Gather video content to compliment your work that will air on digital platforms.

\xe2\x97\x8f Produce sound rich short doc style content for the morning show.

\xe2\x97\x8f Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

\xe2\x97\x8f Write accurate and compelling scripts.

\xe2\x97\x8f Engage with the community with an emphasis on young and diverse audiences.

\xe2\x97\x8f Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and coordinate long-term coverage.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

\xe2\x97\x8f Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.

\xe2\x97\x8f Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

\xe2\x97\x8f A passion for live radio both from the field and in-studio.

\xe2\x97\x8f Great interview skills resulting from a curiosity about the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

\xe2\x97\x8f Excellent audio gathering and editing skills.

\xe2\x97\x8f Knowledge of all CBC platforms - digital, current affairs, radio news and broadcast.

\xe2\x97\x8f Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

\xe2\x97\x8f Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.

\xe2\x97\x8f Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.

\xe2\x97\x8f University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.

\xe2\x97\x8f Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

\xe2\x97\x8f Possession of a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada\'s insurance company.

\xe2\x97\x8f Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
