Your role

CBC is searching for a Reporter/Editor to join our Yukon team.

Key tasks:

Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas for digital, radio news, social and video platforms that will engage and inform the audience, deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.

Regularly present stories on-air, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience\xe2\x80\x99s understanding of issues.

Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

Deliver exclusive and enterprise material on a regular basis.

Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.

Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and coordinate long-term coverage.

As a Reporter/Editor, your primary objective is to perform reporting and editorial assignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of program material for all of our media platforms, including radio, television, social and the web.

You will develop and maintain contact with a variety of sources and work in close co-operation with your program unit. You will have demonstrated success in your role by gathering and reporting information from various sources, conducting an analysis of the facts and information gathered, drawing conclusions or raising issues requiring further investigation, and contributing ideas, written scripts, and other program content

You will also, as required, critically edit material written by others, present information and/or analysis on air in a variety of formats, and perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station. Your work will be governed by CBC\'s journalistic and broadcasting policy and protocols.

In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve. You\xe2\x80\x99re innovative and will champion new story treatments and new workflows, and will help create a diverse range of content on our radio, television, digital and social platforms. You\xe2\x80\x99re not afraid to take creative risks, and you inspire others to do the same.

Although your primary responsibility will be as a reporter/editor, the successful candidate for this role will be required to fill in on various platforms. We are seeking a versatile candidate with demonstrated and emerging skills working with audio, video and digital media.

We are seeking a candidate who is eager to and can quickly learn new skills. The successful candidate will be provided training opportunities to help support in our newsroom operations.

As the industry shifts, local news and community storytelling is more important than ever. You will understand the diverse and changing population across the Yukon Territory and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

Ability to generate, pitch and pursue solid, creative story ideas.

High energy, initiative and enthusiasm towards journalism

Sound news judgement and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure

Deep communication interpersonal skills; strong team player

Openness and curiosity to new ideas and approaches

The heart and head of a storyteller with an aptitude to connect with the territory\xe2\x80\x99s diverse cultural communities.

Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

Demonstrated knowledge of delivering and editing daily content for daily programming on across all CBC platforms

Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.

Aptitude for solving problems both independently and collaboratively

Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks.

Ability to travel within Northern Canada on assignment.

Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience during which the candidate would gain exposure to journalism, social media and the technology of audio or video broadcasting is preferred.

Possession of a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada\'s insurance company.
