This is a temporary 18 month position.

Your role

CBC Newfoundland and Labrador is looking for a Reporter / Editor based in Labrador who will be assigned to the Labrador Morning Show. The position will also occasionally file for digital (text), radio news, social and video platforms. Keeping with corporate standards and policies, the Reporter/Editor will write and produce audio content daily.

Key tasks:

Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas for current affairs, digital, radio news, social and video platforms that will engage and inform the audience, deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.

Regularly present stories on-air, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience\xe2\x80\x99s understanding of issues.

Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

Deliver exclusive and enterprise material on a regular basis.

Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.

Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and coordinate long-term coverage.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.

Storyteller with a strong demonstrated connection to the province\xe2\x80\x99s diverse cultural communities.

Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

Strong knowledge of delivering and editing daily audio content.

Familiar with digital (text) and video platforms.

Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all CBC platforms.

Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.

Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.

High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.

University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.

Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Possession of a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada\'s insurance company.

Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
