Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) has an opportunity for a passionate, ambitious, creative storyteller to join our talented team and make a difference in the vibrant arts community in Mississauga as an Arts Reporter. The successful candidate will be working independently and as part of a team. The Arts Reporter will use their skills to ideate, plan, research, write and edit stories about the thriving Mississauga arts community for Martys HUB robust digital platforms. The successful candidate will work alongside MAC\xe2\x80\x99s creative team of multimedia, creative strategists and communications professionals to elevate our storytelling content. Requirements: Responsibilities:
With guidance from the Communications Manager and Creative Director & Strategist, the Reporter (Arts and Culture) will:

  • Research, interview, write, and edit personal arts stories about Mississauga\xe2\x80\x99s vibrant arts scene for distribution on Martys HUB platforms. Including, but not limited to, articles for MartysHUB.com along with drafting and publishing content for Martys HUB social media channels.
  • Work alongside the Content Creator to ideate content for developed stories for Martys HUB, and its respective social media channels.
  • Conduct and schedule interviews with local artists.
  • Keep up to date with local arts news taking place in the city.
  • With assistance from the Communications Manager, reaching out to media networks to pitch story ideas for their platforms.
  • Help to maintain web content MartysHUB.com via posting articles and events to the events calendar.
  • Participate in regular content brainstorms with the MAC creative team.
  • Contribute on occasion with newsletter creation for MAC\xe2\x80\x99s mailing lists.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Journalism, Media, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional experience in a reporter or journalist based role.
  • Strong knowledge of crafting stories using research, interviewing, and writing/copy editing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Detail oriented, able to organize, multitask, and manage multiple projects on the go.
  • Knowledge of media relations and digital media strategies.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team and individually.
  • Experience with social media scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite and Creators Studio.
  • Valid G Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License and reliable access to a vehicle. MAC will cover mileage costs at $.50/km.
Assets:
  • Experience using Wordpress.
  • Knowledge of using a DSLR camera.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software including Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Passion about bringing the public to the arts.
  • Experience working at a non-profit or in the arts sector.
