The Department of Anthropology is concerned with the unity and diversity of humanity, human culture, andsociety from comparative and global perspectives. Under the general supervision of the Department Manager, the Repatriation Technician & Curator oversees departmental collections and maintains electronic and hard copy collections catalogues. The position supports faculty research in relation to preparation of publications and presentations. The position supports the department in the process of facilitating the repatriation and restitution from the department's collections. The Repatriation Technician & Curator supports laboratory?based teaching by maintaining and facilitating the safe and efficient use of department laboratory and field equipment. The Repatriation Technician & Curator oversees the collections use by students and outside researchers in accordance with department and university practices and procedures.



Your responsibilities will include:



Acting as the first point of contact for collections and lab enquiries Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs and ensuring that the material needs of laboratory exercises and/or courses are available; liaising with joint health and safety committee members regarding policies and procedures Applying established standards in the conservation and administration of collections and applying established standards when cataloguing materials and maintaining a record of inventory Coordinating selection and acquisitioning processes and coordinating repatriation processes while adhering to ethics, rules and regulations on the use of collection materials and in keeping with cultural sensitivities Implementing plans and process improvements for collections acquisition and repatriation activities Coordinating the installation and de-installation of exhibits Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment

Essential Qualifications:



Masters degree in Anthropological Archaeology, Osteoarchaeology, Biological Anthropology or related field Minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience with collections curation. Experience with collections repatriation is strongly preferred Experience with computer database management for collections, museum and/or laboratory procedures, and laboratory analysis. Experience working with equipment such as common bench tools, photograph equipment, molding and casting equipment, fume hoods, scalpels or similar Experience working with databases and producing reports Experience in researching and maintaining computer database Demonstrated knowledge of use of standard laboratory equipment and techniques includingchemical storage and audits Excellent verbal and written communication skills and tact Strong problem-solving, detail orientation, research and analytical skills Ability to deal tactfully, personably and effectively with studentsat all levels, staff and faculty, as well as with the public Advanced skills in MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

USW Pay Band 12 - $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
