About the Role



We are looking for a skilled and motivated

Renewable Energy Technologist / PV System Designer

to join our growing team. This hybrid role combines technical design work with hands-on field involvement in the implementation of solar and other renewable energy systems across Canada.

You'll work closely with our engineering, sales, and installation teams to perform site assessments, develop efficient and code-compliant PV system designs, support installations, and ensure optimal system performance. Key Responsibilities



System Design & Development



Create preliminary and detailed PV system designs using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software. Model energy production and optimize system layout and component selection. Assist in the development of renewable power system prototypes and custom solutions. Prepare electrical layouts, documentation, and permit packages. Generate accurate estimates, firm quotes, and detailed project scopes. Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, utility requirements, and local regulations.

Installation & Field Work



Support or participate in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of renewable energy systems. Conduct site assessments and evaluate environmental and structural conditions. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical or mechanical issues in installed systems.

Reporting & Documentation



Collect and analyze performance data for ongoing optimization. Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs). Produce clear and complete user manuals, reports, and internal records.

Safety & Compliance



Adhere to all job site safety protocols and procedures. Ensure systems comply with the Canadian Electrical Code, Building Code, and other relevant standards. Stay current on industry regulations, standards, and emerging technologies.

Collaboration & Client Interaction



Collaborate with internal teams across engineering, sales, and installation departments. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders. Educate customers on system functionality, maintenance, and performance expectations.

What We're Looking For



Required Qualifications



Solid understanding of electrical principles and familiarity with Ohm's Law. Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD (or similar CAD software). Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage technical documentation accurately. Valid Class 5 driver's license. Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Preferred Qualifications



Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Technology (or equivalent). Journeyman certification or eligibility for registration with EGBC as EIT/P.Eng. Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., SketchUp, Helioscope). Familiarity with Building Code and permitting processes. Practical experience with solar PV system installation and service.
