The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is responsible for providing a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for young children. The ECE supports each child's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development through play-based learning and intentional teaching strategies, while maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere in alignment with licensing regulations and center philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
-Child Development & Curriculum
Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and programs based on children's interests and needs.
Foster curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning through play-based, hands-on experiences.
Observe, document, and assess children's progress using development tools and maintain accurate records.
Support the inclusion of all children, adapting programming to meet diverse needs and abilities.
-Health, Safety & Supervision
Ensure the environment meets all health, safety, and licensing requirements.
Supervise children at all times, ensuring a safe and nurturing setting.
Promote positive behaviour guidance and conflict resolution techniques.
Follow all policies and procedures related to child protection, illness, and emergency response.
-Family & Community Engagement
Build respectful, supportive, and professional relationships with families.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's development and daily experiences.
Participate in center events, family meetings, and community initiatives when required.
-Team Collaboration & Professionalism
Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a cohesive and positive team environment.
Support and mentor assistants, students, and volunteers when applicable.
Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and organizational values at all times.
Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor environments with continuous active engagement with children.
Lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Schedule will vary depending on program needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
Early Childhood Education Certificate/Diploma (preferred, not required)
Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.
Clear social development check.
Previous experience in a childcare setting is an asset.
Strong understanding of child development, learning through play, and inclusive practices.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
