London Cares programming continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community we serve. We are seeking a
Relief Worker
to join us. We operate 24/7 365 days of the year; in this role you will be required to work a minimum of 3 shifts per month. Relief employees will be asked to cover day, afternoon, and overnight shifts, on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will report to the Outreach Coordinator, or any other person as the Employer may assign from time to time and carry out such duties as assigned to you by the Employer.

Relief Worker
will include, but are not limited to:
Community Hub team:
Supporting participants accessing Hub services, which includes access to washrooms, showers, laundry, and outside property. Be responsible for day-to-day operations, including opening and closing duties. Help to create a welcoming environment by engaging and establishing rapport with individuals who come into the space. Work as a resource for individuals in the space, particularly around system navigation. Supervise the well-being of participants and make referrals or engage other services as necessary. Maintain strong communication and collaboration practices with your shift and community partners. Use intervention and de - escalation skills to defuse conflicts if they can be resolved amongst the individuals. Access databases and complete incident reports as necessary. Perform light housekeeping and maintenance tasks to ensure a clean work environment.
Streat Outreach Worker:
you will serve London's core areas (downtown, Old East, SOHO), your workday will be as varied as the people you meet. You will work in a variety of settings which include parks and along river paths engaging with people experiencing homelessness where they are and provide in-the-moment crisis support, harm reduction and connections to other services.
Highly Supportive Housing Program:
You will support those living in the building using the same intervention and mediations skills to help maintain their wellbeing.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary education in the field of social work, human services, addictions, or mental health
2+ years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and vulnerable populations
Clear vulnerable police record check
Valid Standard First Aid/CPR is a requirement of this position.
Training in non-violent crisis intervention and ASSIST considered an asset
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to apply a person-centered, strengths-based approach when working in the community with marginalized individuals who are experiencing homelessness with complex needs of untreated mental health, addictions, and trauma.
A willingness to uphold a low-barrier approach and understanding of harm reduction and housing first principles.
Skillful in-the-moment problem solving with a calm disposition
Knowledge of community resources in the City of London and system navigation will be an asset to this role.
