Position Overview:
As a
Relief Staff
member at WonderWise, you will play an important role in maintaining the high standards of care and education when our regular staff are unavailable. Whether covering for staff absences due to sickness, vacation, or other reasons, you will step into the classroom to assist with daily operations, provide supervision, and support children's learning and development. This is an
on-call position
offering flexibility and the opportunity to work in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support and Child Supervision:
? Assist in the implementation of daily routines and developmentally appropriate activities for children.
? Ensure children's safety and well-being by supervising them at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
? Engage children in play-based learning activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
? Support children during mealtimes, nap times, and transitions between activities.
? Provide individualized attention to children as needed, fostering positive behaviors and healthy social interactions.
? Ensure that the child to staff ratio is maintained at all times.
Collaborating with Staff:
? Work alongside the Lead Educator and other team members to ensure the classroom runs smoothly during your shift.
? Follow the daily schedule and lesson plans set by the Lead Educator or Centre Director.
? Provide support for other educators by assisting with classroom organization, cleaning, and preparing materials for activities.
? Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and team members, ensuring continuity of care and addressing any immediate concerns.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene:
? Maintain a clean and safe environment, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed during indoor and outdoor activities.
? Assist in ensuring children follow health and hygiene guidelines, including washing hands and cleaning up after activities.
? Monitor children for any signs of illness, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken if any child becomes unwell.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
? Be prepared to step into different classrooms and work with different age groups as required.
? Adapt to varying schedules, needs, and activities depending on the daily requirements and the absence of regular staff.
? Maintain a positive and professional attitude, contributing to a supportive and team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
? Level 1, 2 or 3 ECE Certification as recognized by Alberta's Child Care Licensing.
? First Aid and CPR Certification (must be valid and up-to-date).
? Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be clear and current - within the last 6 months).
Experience:
? Experience working with children in a licensed child care or early childhood education setting is preferred.
? Flexibility to work on-call and adapt to various shifts and responsibilities.
? Experience working with different age groups is an asset (e.g., infants, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarten-aged).
Skills and Competencies:
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
? Ability to remain calm and professional in busy or challenging situations.
? Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing environments and schedules.
? Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with young children.
? Ability to follow health and safety protocols and ensure the well-being of children.
Working Conditions:
? Casual, on-call position with flexible shifts (Monday-Friday 6:30am-5:30pm)
? Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting or assisting children as necessary.
? Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and participate in active play and learning activities.
? Availability to work on short notice or fill in for unplanned absences.
