About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate
Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP)
to join our shelter team in Toronto. In this role, you will provide direct support and supervision to youth in a shelter setting, ensuring their safety, dignity, and personal growth. The ideal candidate is someone with experience working with at-risk and homeless youth and is committed to supporting positive change in their lives.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide supervision and care to residents within the shelter environment.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents at all times.
Accurately document case notes and complete data entry in the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS).
Support residents in developing and implementing individualized case plans in line with the City of Toronto Shelter Standards.
Connect youth with appropriate community-based services and resources.
Plan, deliver, and evaluate group programming for shelter residents.
Complete administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or a related field (e.g., CYCP, CYC, BSW, SSW).
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth or adolescents in a residential, transitional, or shelter setting.
Understanding of the issues affecting homeless and street-involved youth, including trauma, mental health, substance use, and systemic barriers.
Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to handle conflict and crisis situations with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.
Strong administrative, organizational, and computer skills.
Requirements:
Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
Valid UMAB and CPI certifications.
Completion of suicide prevention and intervention training (as per Shelter Standards).
Full COVID-19 vaccination (minimum 2 doses with a Health Canada approved vaccine).
