Job Description

Job Summary:

The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and availability of the mine equipment through effective maintenance strategies, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role requires extensive experience working in a mine/ mill environment, along with a strong understanding of mineral processing equipment, condition monitoring, and reliability engineering principles to enhance mine/ mill performance, reduce unplanned downtime, and support production targets.

Maintenance & Reliability Engineer - Key Responsibilities

Reliability and Maintenance Planning:

Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies for mine equipment. Create and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs tailored to critical process equipment. Monitor equipment condition and performance using KPIs such as availability, utilization, and maintenance cost trends.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA):

Lead root cause investigations for unplanned downtime and repetitive failures. Recommend corrective actions, ensure follow-through, and maintain detailed RCA documentation. Use data-driven methods (e.g., Pareto analysis, 5-Whys, FMEA) to drive resolution of chronic issues.

Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics:

Implement and interpret condition monitoring programs (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasound) for rotating and static equipment. Develop alarm thresholds and coordinate inspections with predictive maintenance teams. Identify early warning signs of failure and proactively mitigate equipment risks.

Continuous Improvement and Collaboration:

Partner with operations and metallurgy teams to analyze bottlenecks and improve mine throughput, equipment uptime, and recovery performance. Identify opportunities for cost savings and equipment optimization. Lead or participate in cross-functional improvement initiatives (e.g., defect elimination, SMED).

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Use CMMS and data analytics platforms to track equipment reliability trends, work order history, and maintenance KPIs. Produce weekly and monthly reports summarizing downtime, maintenance performance, and improvement actions. Present insights and recommendations to mine management for decision-making.

Shutdown & Turnaround Support:

Support planning and execution of scheduled outages. Define job scopes, resource requirements, and timelines for major equipment inspections and overhauls. Ensure that critical path tasks are identified and completed safely and efficiently.

Technical Support & OEM Coordination:

Provide technical guidance to maintenance crews for troubleshooting and repairs. Work closely with OEMs and vendors to evaluate upgrades, process improvements, and warranty support. Review technical documentation, specifications, and maintenance procedures.

Safety and Compliance:

Promote a safety-first culture in all reliability and maintenance activities. Ensure adherence to isolation procedures, confined space protocols, and all process plant safety standards. Participate in safety audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 3-5 years of reliability or maintenance engineering experience, with extensive hands-on experience in fixed plant operations within a mineral processing or mining environment. Proficiency in reliability methodologies: RCM, RCA, FMEA, and criticality analysis. Experience with condition monitoring tools and analysis techniques. Familiarity with CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP, Maximo) and data visualization tools. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments. Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Six Sigma, or other relevant certifications are an asset.
