JOB SUMMARY



The Asset Management Branch is responsible for the cost-effective management of the City's $20 billion public works infrastructure assets, carrying out or overseeing the provision of planning, analysis and needs evaluation specifications, and Request for Proposal (RFP) development, evaluation and selection.


You are responsible for providing specialized technical support for the acquisition, manipulation and review of data, the development and maintenance of databases and the collection of maps and other graphical representations to assist in identifying, quantifying and rating the city's immediate and longer term facility replacement priorities to city owned infrastructure assets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of 3 year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology


Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the engineering technology field, maintenance and rehabilitation, including computer program application experience and database development and management

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT

KNOWLEDGE


Design, construction and operational practices to develop and maintain related databases and to provide technical input to priority ranking of infrastructure needs Computer applications related to the work, including utilization of discipline related software databases, GIS, spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and Intra-Internet Construction unit price and the city's approved formulas for estimating materials/costs for projects Related municipal and provincial codes by-laws, legislation and regulations Procedures and processes to receive, review and process requests by consulting engineers, developers and other interested parties Procedures for developing briefing and reports for review by Senior Engineer and the Rehabilitation Review Committee Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

Communicate effectively in writing and orally, to review and present complicated technical data and prepare comprehensive reports; participate in meeting/on committees and contribute to discussion and decision-making Review and carry out preliminary analyses to determine if data is meaningful and accurate Carry out preparation of preliminary cost estimates for infrastructure projects Analytical and attention to detail Adaptable/flexible, particularly with respect to the introduction of technology advancements for database management Adaptable/flexible, particularly with respect to the introduction of technology advancements for infrastructure (sewer, drainage, roads and structures) rehabilitation/replacement methodologies Results oriented Well organized with the ability to prioritize, schedule work and meet competing demands with limited supervision Effective interpersonal skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW


Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing Driver's License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
