Under the clinical direction of the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or designate, the Rehabilitation Assistant is responsible for carrying out rehabilitative treatment plans and programs as prescribed by the Therapist. The Rehabilitation Assistant supports the delivery of care by assisting in monitoring and evaluating residents' progress, implementing individual and group interventions, and facilitating activities designed to improve or maintain residents' functional abilities and overall quality of life.
Key Activity Summary:
-Conducts individual and group therapeutic activities as instructed such as therapeutic ambulation, wheelchair mobility training, exercise classes, individual prescribed exercises, cognitive groups, social groups, to restore, improve and maintain residents' functional abilities;
-Assists the Therapist during direct treatment or during assessment sessions;
Reports observation on residents' progress and condition of residents to therapist and other appropriate team members;
-Assists the Therapist in building, modifying, and adapting self-help devise and equipment;
-Participates in residents' conference to provide feedback to care teams on residents' progress, as required;
-Maintains work area by cleaning, transporting, storing and inspecting equipment and supplies;
-Participates in team meeting, in-service and quality improvement initiatives;
-Maintains a safe working environment by following health and safety guidelines, ensuring equipment is in safe working condition, reporting unsafe, hazardous conditions and suspected person in care abuse; completes reports and assists with investigation and follow up as necessary;
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant program (mandatory requirement);
Solid understanding of the intent and philosophy of the programs;
Valid First Aid and CPR C/AED certification;
Non-violent crisis intervention certificate;
Able to plan and deliver programs effectively;
Fluent in English with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
