Job Description

Job Summary:



Works under the direction of a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist to assist in the established rehabilitative activities and physical therapy programs to enhance mobility, build strength, increase range of motion, improve balance, perceptual and sensory awareness and maximum achievement in activities of daily living.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



Assists residents with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility, strengthening, balance and range of motion exercises, walking programs and activities of daily living as directed. Demonstrates to residents and assists in the use of exercise equipment such as Pulley system, parallel bars, passive trainers and other therapeutic aids/ equipment. Assists residents in dressing and toilet needs as required in preparation for and following rehabilitative activity; assists with resident lifting / transfers and positioning as directed. Reports observations of resident's progress and responses to treatment program to Physiotherapist. Communicates concerns and / changes to resident's condition. Porters patients to and from the Physical Therapy area utilizing mechanical aids such as wheelchairs and walkers. Sets up and organizes furnishing and equipment for related activities as directed; cleans and maintains equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to the Physiotherapist. Attends and participates in care conferences and inservice education as requested. Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies and reports needs to Physiotherapist. Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement process by assisting with development of standards and completion of audits. Records unusual occurrences and statistical records. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Education, Training and Experience:



Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program plus one years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:



Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal effectively with others.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $30.96 per hour
