Regulation & Standards Consultant



As part of our commitment to excellence in nursing regulation, we are seeking a

Regulation & Standards Consultant

to join our Governance, Regulation & Standards team. This position will contribute to the planning, development, interpretation, and evaluation of standards, guidelines, and regulatory policies that support the nursing profession in Alberta.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who brings deep nursing experience, analytical skills, and a systems perspective. You will engage with provincial, national, and interprofessional issues to shape policy that protects the public and supports a high-performing health care system.

What You Will Do



Regulatory Policy Development



Analyze and monitor the health care environment to identify policy gaps and inform regulatory improvements. Lead the development of standards of practice, guidelines, and other regulatory policy documents for Council consideration. Design and implement methods to gather feedback from members and external partners. Evaluate data and evidence to support regulatory policy recommendations. Analyze legislative changes and assess impacts and risks to the nursing profession. Develop evidence-informed briefing notes and responses on nursing and health system issues.

Partnerships & Collaborations



Collaborate across internal teams to support regulatory decision-making and translate policy into practice. Build and maintain relationships with employers, government officials, researchers, and other regulatory bodies. Participate in networks of nursing and interprofessional leaders to advance regulatory policy. Support a professional practice environment that welcomes innovation and ensures quality care delivery.

What You Possess



Education:

Master's degree in nursing, or other related field.

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) with demonstrated expertise across multiple nursing domains (clinical practice, administration, education, research, or policy development)

Demonstrated experience in nursing policy development, implementation, and evaluation

Advanced knowledge of nursing practice standards and current legislative/regulatory frameworks

Working knowledge of Nursing Education Program Approval (NEPA) processes, standards, and accreditation requirements

Strong ability to evaluate evidence, identify trends, and translate insights into policy.

Clear, concise communicator with strong relationship-building and listening skills.

Leadership & Project Coordination:

Skilled in guiding initiatives and influencing positive outcomes in complex environments.

Independence & Judgment:

Ability to work autonomously, make informed decisions, and respond effectively to shifting priorities.

Technology Proficiency:

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and virtual collaboration tools.

Professionalism:

High level of integrity, discretion, and diplomacy when handling sensitive matters.
