Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital (BBVSH) is one of Canada's leading emergency and specialty hospitals, serving patients and referring veterinarians across British Columbia and Western Canada. We are a VECCS Certified Level 1 Facility and a Provisional Veterinary Trauma Centre, operating 24/7 from a 26,000 square foot facility equipped with advanced medical technology and staffed by over 175 veterinary professionals. BBVSH is a fully equipped, veterinary facility designed to support complex cases. Our hospital is outfitted with a comprehensive suite of advanced diagnostic imaging tools, including on-site CT, MRI, fluoroscopy (C-Arm), digital radiography, and ultrasound. These capabilities allow for timely and accurate diagnoses, supporting the fast-paced nature of emergency and specialty medicine.

Our dedicated treatment areas are designed to meet the specific needs of each service. This includes a fully equipped ICU, a state-of-the-art chemotherapy treatment suite for oncology patients, and a full-service rehabilitation department featuring an underwater treadmill for advanced recovery and mobility support. Our in-house blood donor program ensures timely access to life-saving transfusions, and our in-house laboratory enables rapid turnaround on critical diagnostics, including CBC, chemistries, blood gases, electrolytes, coagulation panels, and more.

We also utilize mechanical and anesthesia ventilators, high-flow nasal oxygen systems, and multiparameter monitors with invasive blood pressure capabilities to support the care of unstable and critically ill patients.

As a referral and emergency hospital, BBVSH works closely with general practitioners. We are committed to advancing veterinary medicine through ongoing collaboration, and proudly support the broader veterinary community by hosting regular continuing education events, technician and DVM student externships, and mentorship opportunities for new graduates and developing professionals.

Your Role



As a Registered Veterinary Technician in our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) department, you will work closely with board-certified Critical Care Specialists and experienced ER veterinarians to support critically ill and emergent patients. This is an ideal opportunity for technicians pursuing--or interested in pursuing--a Veterinary Technician Specialty in Emergency and Critical Care (VTS-ECC).

RVTs in our ECC team are trained and empowered to perform advanced technical procedures, including:

Central and arterial line placement Urinary catheterization Nasogastric tube placement Blood transfusions and blood bank donations CRI calculations and administration Monitoring and nursing of patients on high-flow oxygen, ventilators, and temporary pacing devices Hands-on care of high-acuity patients from multiple specialty services

Schedule



We offer a variety of shift structures to promote work-life balance and accommodate hospital needs. RVT schedules may include:

4 x 10-hour shifts 3 x 12-hour shifts Day, evening, and overnight rotations availability in the ER/ICU

Qualifications



Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician program Successful completion of the VTNE Eligible for registration with the BCVTA Experience in an emergency or referral setting is an asset (but not required--training provided) Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills Detail-oriented, reliable, and adaptable Willing to relocate (relocation support and/or signing bonus available for out-of-province applicants)
