Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.


The Manager of the Horizons program is currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Registered Social Worker. The purpose of the position is to provide professional social worker services including: assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of individual, interpersonal, and social problems. This will be done through the use of social work knowledge and skills, interventions and strategies in order to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities to achieve optimum psychosocial and social functioning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:



Interviewing assigned patients, relatives and others considered significant to patient's lives as well as reviewing clinical histories and consulting with other facilities, agencies and care providers to obtain pertinent diagnostic and collaborative information; Assessing psychosocial strengths and challenges within a systems theory approach so as to formulate diagnostic impressions, develop and plan specific therapeutic interventions consistent with evidence based SW Practices to address patient needs in consultation with clinical team members relevant to assigned patients; Implementing short and/or long term treatment goals utilizing a range of therapeutic modalities including, but not restricted to psychotherapy, adjustment therapy, motivational counselling, resource counselling, crisis counselling, psychosocial education, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused counselling, supportive treatment, referral and advocacy. This will be provided through the use of individual, marital, family and group therapies, and community development strategies to assist patients and their significant others to optimize their psychosocial functioning. Building capacity through collaborating and advocating with care providers and family within the community regarding rehabilitation of persons with mental illness and through strengthening mental health community services, educating community groups/individuals about mental health issues and hospital services; Ensuring that patient records are current, accurate, contain relevant information about patients and are managed in a manner that protects patient privacy and are in line with Waypoint and OCSWSSW standards Providing consulting services to other social workers or professional in relation to social work activities Providing professional supervision to a social work student as required Serving on administrative, clinical and community committees as assigned, identified and/or chosen

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:



Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers Valid Ontario Driver's License Bachelor of Social Workers (BSW) required; Master of Social Worker (MSW) preferred Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills Proven written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to adapt readily to change Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation), and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
