Position Summary
:
Respiratory Therapists are an integral part of the health care team providing services such as protocol based ventilator management, airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, arterial line insertion and arterial blood gas procurement, pulmonary diagnostics, patient assessment and evaluation.
Position Requirements:
General Certificate/ Graduate Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario without limitations.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required within 6 months of commencing employment and commitment to re-certification every two years.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and stress management skills.
Accountable to keep current with relevant policies and guidelines related to infection prevention and control and ensuring implementation of these practice standards
Accountable to practice standards outlined by the College of Respiratory Therapists as they align with SMGH practice standards
Facilitate continuous patient focused improvements by active participation in SMGH quality improvement system using LEAN principles.
Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in the provision of clinical training and/or adult education.
Previous experience in critical care respiratory therapy.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education/best practice.
Membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario.
