Your Opportunity:Adult Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at RAH provides a dynamic, patient/family centered care environment, where all members of the team work within the collaborative care framework, according to the AMH Edmonton Zone Principles of Care. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse in PICU is responsible for the rapid assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care for PICU patients. PICU patients present with increased vulnerability, pose a level of risk to themselves or others that cannot be managed in a non-PICU environment, and require rapid, dynamic and therapeutic interventions that must be provided within the context of acute risk and unstable illness. To be successful in this role: Has thorough knowledge and experience of evidence based AMH treatment modalities (pharmacological and non-pharmacological). Has demonstrated skill at staying calm in crisis situations and strong verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required) that supports verbal messages being received and understood within the context of crisis and non-crisis situations. Has active listening skills and ability to quickly establish and easily maintain relationships built on mutual respect, appropriate sensitivity, transparency, empathy and compassion with patients & families, colleagues, professional and medical staff. Has demonstrated ability to practice in a recovery-oriented and trauma-informed manner. Has sound self-management skills; able to manage own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances and think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Works cooperatively and productively with others from a variety of disciplines. Has excellent time management skills.Description:As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(a)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Working knowledge of patient and family-centered care principles. Working knowledge regarding the use of psychotropic medication (advanced knowledge preferred). Working knowledge of the DSM-5, concurrent disorders and staged matched interventions. Core nonviolent crisis intervention skills (advanced skills preferred) Working knowledge of psychopathology. Demonstrated ability to assess health status (including systems examination). Demonstrated ability to independently conduct a mental status examination, conduct a mental health assessment and formulate a problem list and plan of care. Demonstrated ability to assess multiple conditions of risk and develop evidence based risk mitigation plans. Demonstrated ability to appropriately assess and manage symptoms of withdrawal from multiple substances. Demonstrated ability to engage patients and families (including but not limited to patient and family teaching). Working knowledge of all relevant legislation (e.g. MHA, HIA, PPIC, etc). This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:Have at least 2 years recent experience working with persons with an addiction and/or mental health issues, preferably in an acute care/hospital setting.
