Your Opportunity:
Based on location availability, the successful applicant has the option to work from the Ponoka, CCMHBI office or our Red Deer office at Centre 5010. Reporting directly to the Manager, VODP, the RPN/RN on the Youth Services Team, will offer harm reduction focused, mental health and addiction services to youth clients across the province. The RPN/RN will work within an interdisciplinary environment to provide harm reduction focused, culturally appropriate, specialized assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for opioid dependent youth and their families. Tasks include: following regulatory procedures regarding Suboxone and Methadone, as well as monitoring prescription changes, facilitating changes with doses, monitoring urine drug screen results, insuring the VODP physician is apprised of client status and supporting the client's in psychosocial areas related to addiction. Collaborating with Children's Services, community programs and services, Pharmacies, Labs, Emergency Departments, Physicians, existing Addiction and Mental Health Services, you will take a participatory decision-making approach within a team and external stakeholders in finding solutions and resources to support individuals with an opioid dependency. The successful applicant is an assertive, proactive individual with a strong foundation in mental health and addictions and excels at working professionally and independently in a collaborative, fast-paced, positive team environment that requires excellent assessment, prioritization, conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Your understanding, passion and experience in Opioid Treatment is essential, as well as excellent computer, texting and telephone etiquette, as you will be monitoring and evaluating client progress via zoom, text and telephone.
Description:
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, while reflecting shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent knowledge of addictions and mental illness. Must be competent in identifying clients at risk and completing a suicide risk assessment. Knowledge of Suboxone/buprenorphine and Methadone. Advanced computer literacy. Above average keyboarding skills and proficient with computer programs - Outlook, MS Office, MS Teams, Connect Care, etc. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
