Your Opportunity:
The Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48-bed facility that provides care for patients with acquired brain injury through an interdisciplinary approach. The Program is a progressive and expanding service with a commitment to professional development and excellence. Within the Program, reporting to a Unit Manager, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, with due consideration provided for family and appropriate others. You will also ensure effective operation of the unit when assuming designated responsibilities and contribute to the learning experience of students, staff and patients. As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse you will utilize the nursing process and demonstrate critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills to provide safe, competent and ethical patient care. You will practice independently and interdependently following the full scope of practice as set out by the College of Alberta Registered Nurses/College Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.
Description:
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, while reflecting shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with CRNA is also acceptable. You will be physically capable of carrying out duties of this position. This is physically demanding position that requires the RN/RPN to assist with ADL's including toileting, bathing, dressing, and transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioural patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at time for care needs. Leadership, observation, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric and rehabilitation setting are essential. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Six or more months experience in working in neurology, with stroke and brain injured patients is desired. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
