Registered Psychiatric Nurse

Alberta, Canada

Job Description

Your Opportunity:

Imagine a place where you can reconnect by disconnecting. Where the northern lights blaze across the sky and reflect on the water, in a land punctuated with hundreds of lakes and a vast range of wildlife. A place where you can travel back in time and submerge yourself in a rich culture. This is the Lakeland. The Rural Police and Crisis Team (RPACT) is an exciting new partnership between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). RPACT includes a registered psychiatric nurse paired with an RCMP member who respond to situations in the Lakeland Area involving individuals experiencing a psychiatric mental health, addictions, or psycho-social crisis when there is a danger to themselves and / or public. Required services may be provided in a variety of community settings. The RPN provides risk and mental health assessments including mental status exams, provides recommendations for next steps, arranges urgent psychiatry assessments, medication administration and makes referrals to other AHS and community service providers as needed. This position provides consultation and support to other professionals or responding officers regarding the Mental Health Act of Alberta. Goals of this collaboration are to divert individuals who are experiencing a crisis due to mental illness and/or addiction issues from the justice system and hospital emergency departments, to assess and stabilize in the community and to connect individuals with resources and supports. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
