Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Care Manager of the Addiction and Mental Health Housing, and as part of inter-disciplinary clinical support and team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) provides in reached recovery and harm reduction oriented clinical consultation and support to individuals residing in 5 long-term supported housing initiatives: Rapid Housing Initiative. The city of Edmonton initiated the Rapid Housing initiative through federal funding to provide housing and support to vulnerable homeless populations. AHS, Addiction and Mental Health will provide in-reached clinical support to all the sites with escalated health supports at one site: MacArthur, for residents with complex addiction, mental health and Phys-med concerns. Homeward Trust administrates the RHI, and clinical support and consultation will be provided in partnership with the contracted housing providers and Homeward Trust. The RPN will work closely with the client, their primary supports, the AHS, AMH housing clinical team, the housing operator staff and other clinicians to review service requests and support needs based on a comprehensive strength-based assessment. Based on a holistic nursing perspective, the RPN will contribute to developing and implementing an integrated recovery care plan focused on maximizing recovery, independence and successful community living. This reached clinical work at the RHI sites may include referral to specialized AHS services as indicated. This position may also include symptom management and working closely with psychiatrists and general practitioners with regard to medication consultations, reviews, client and housing provider education and follow-up. This position is mobile, and most of the work will be completed in the community-based Rapid Housing Initiatives.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum 2 years’ of experience working in a mental health setting. Preferred Qualifications: Additional training in recovery-based care, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and/or behavioral assessment intervention/assessments are assets. Excellent verbal and written communication. Experience and proficiency in the use of Connect Care is also an asset. Community mental health experience. Housing experience is beneficial. Knowledge and ability to respond to the cultural needs of diverse populations.
