The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Practical Nurse to work in the Women's Secure Forensic Unit (WSFU) & Secure Observation and Treatment Unit (SOTU). As a member of a diverse inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure security, safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for clients who may or may not be under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). You will liaise with other services in the LAMH Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development and provide educational support to students. You will participate in the preparation of ORB reports and implement the unit's risk management processes. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient's response to pharmaceutical care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members and charge nurses. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, addiction issues, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, and severe and persistent mental illness. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments and develop, implement and evaluate interdisciplinary client centered care plans. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable standards and requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work and is located at the Queen Street Site.
Job Requirements
You must be registered in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). You must have medication administration certification. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. You will also have experience in psychiatric and forensic risk assessments. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing and addiction issues. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is required. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within an inter-professional collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is also required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are considered an asset.
