Job Description


The Women\xe2\x80\x99s Services is seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Practical Nurse on the Crisis Critical Care Unit 7 (formerly Women\xe2\x80\x99s Inpatient Unit). As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure the security, the safety and the CNO standards of nursing practice are maintained. As a member of the interprofessional team you will be responsible for providing clinical care to women from diverse backgrounds with a complex mood disorder that may be complicated by a trauma experience, personality disorder and/ or concurrent substance use. Working within a primary nursing model, you will actively contribute to the treatment approach for the Unit, perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care. As a member of an interprofessional team, the Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will have sound knowledge of, crisis intervention, trauma, group facilitation, severe and persistent mental illness and mood disorders. As a RPN, your skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient\xe2\x80\x99s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will be required to function effectively in a group environment. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client-centered care plans, initiate and monitor safety plans and maintain the therapeutic milieu. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. The candidate must have medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing and addiction issues. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within an inter-disciplinary collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is also required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Please Note: This part-time, permanent position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $28.18 - $33.65 per hour
