Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse functions as a professional by utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of all outpatient pain related therapies and nursing care needs of patients. The Registered Nurse is responsible for incorporating the RHPA scope of practice, the College of Nurses of Ontario and unit-specific standards and competencies into nursing practice and is an integral member of team practicing as an advocate, educator and direct caregiver.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited community college program with evidence of IV medication administration as part of the basic educational curriculum/IV medication administration certificate
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with no restrictions on registration or professional practice conduct hearings pending
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of Service, Responsible Stewardship, Community Responsiveness and Respect.
- Current BCLS
- Previous ambulatory care experience as asset
- Working Knowledge of pain related nursing care as asset
- Venipuncture and IV therapy certification as asset
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilizes the nursing process: plans, implements, evaluates and documents the delivery and management of nursing care in an ambulatory care/pain services setting
- Applies critical thinking to integrate knowledge and technical skills in the provision of care to the diverse patient population within an ambulatory care clinic setting.
- Executes physicians orders for all assigned patients; administers medication and treatments and delivers appropriate nursing care in accordance with policies, procedures and standards. Specifically assists with pain-related procedures including but not limited to: ultrasounds, injections, medication administration and patient monitoring as required.
- Contributes to the triage, assessment and documentation of patient services patients on an on-going basis at the direction of pain services physicians.
- Uses teaching principles effectively to provide patient centred care.
- Assists in returning phone calls from patients that require answers to clinical needs/procedures. Liaise with physicians and/or identified community providers for additional patient related information when required.
- Assist with data collection for outcomes in patient visits following interventional procedures including but not limited to: service target requirements, quality assurance metrics, clinical metrics and other data collection as assigned by the manager
- Participates in hospital and unit-based quality improvement programs to enhance the effectiveness of nursing practice and patient care.
- Participates in ongoing educational activities related to practice issues and professional development.
- Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues through preceptorship/mentorship or patient care conferences or presentations at formal and informal meetings.
- Values, utilizes and participates in ongoing research activities in support of evidence- based nursing practice.
- Reviews and commits to hospital and unit-specific policies and procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality and release of information in accordance with privacy legislation and hospital policy at all times.
- Participates in unit meetings/ activities and supports the mission statement, objectives and goals of the unit and organization.
- Ensures a safe environment and brings forward areas of concern.
- Ensures the adequacy of supplies and equipment as needed.
- Delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
WAGE RATE:
$34.10...$35.57...$37.05 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
