Position Summary
As a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), you will provide professional nursing care to residents in alignment with the Home's Mission and Values. Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC) and taking day-to-day direction from the ADOC or RNs, you will assess resident needs, implement approved Care Plans, administer medications and treatments, and provide hands-on care as required. You will monitor care provision, support staff, and assist in emergency situations, ensuring residents' safety and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care:
Assess and monitor resident needs, implement approved Care Plans, administer medications and treatments, assist with ADLs, and respond to emergencies. Apply restorative care principles, adult Montessori philosophies, and responsive behaviour strategies. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate significant changes to RNs or DOC.
Monitoring Care Provision:
Ensure care delivered by PSWs and RSAs aligns with Care Plans. Notify RNs or DOC of concerns and complete required reports. Communicate with SDMs and physicians as needed.
Communication & Teamwork:
Promote effective communication within the department, across the Home, and with residents and families. Foster teamwork and positive relationships with staff, physicians, external providers, and other departments.
Customer Service:
Provide professional, courteous, and compassionate interactions with residents and families. Support dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing in all care provided.
Workplace Health & Safety:
Maintain a safe work environment, comply with relevant laws, regulations, and policies, address hazards promptly, and participate in safety programs including Fire Prevention, Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control. Fulfill responsibilities during emergencies and provide leadership when required.
Qualifications
Current registration as a
Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)
with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing.
Comprehensive knowledge of medication administration practices.
Competency in responsive behaviour management (PIECES, GPA) is an asset.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Professional demeanor, patience, sound judgment, and composure in challenging situations.
Ability to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physically able to perform all nursing duties and free of communicable diseases.
Adherence to company policies regarding dress code, personal appearance, conduct, and immunizations.
