Summary

As a Registered Practical Nurse at Symphony Senior Living Kanata, you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate care to our residents. QUALIFICATIONS:

Reports to the Wellness Coordinator A Registered Practical Nurse with a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses or governing body for the region in which they practice. Proof of medication administration education/ competency Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Possess complete understanding and application of the Resident's Bill of Rights Clear understanding of resident centered care Leadership ability Excellent organizational skills Strong team orientation
Trained in C.P.R. and First Aid

Must be able to communicate in English (written, verbal, reading) - Fluent in English

Through the application of biological, psychological and social sciences, and a basic understanding of the disease process, the RPN is competent to deliver care to our residents at their designated level of skill Assist with ADLs such as elimination, mobility, social functioning and personal hygiene Undertakes observation, reporting and recording of such care Communicates information to the appropriate members of the wellness team Is knowledgeable of the emergency procedures for the community Applies the principles of infection control Applies the principles of healing process, skin integrity and aseptic techniques

Monitors deviations from expected health outcomes and adjusts plan of care accordingly Recognizes when it is appropriate to obtain the opinion of another health team member for the well being of our residents

Follows up on all resident and family enquiries (takes accountability to ensure reply is given)

Provides services in such a way that problems in unpredictable events are invisible to the resident and family

Maintains a positive and friendly manner at all times ( greets every family member, resident and employee on site)

Working Conditions:

Must be able to deal with exposure to dust during performance of duties and work safely with cleaning compounds Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as a major job function. Lifting, with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-120 lbs. usual) as a major job function Pushing/pulling using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 Lbs. Usual) as a major job function Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as a minor job function. Walking with possibility some upstairs walking, up to 3 hrs. Maximum (1-2 hrs. Usual) as a major job function Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hrs. Maximum (1-2 hrs. usual) as a major job function Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as a major job function Crouching/kneeling for short periods of time as a minor job function Carries and transports objects of various sizes, to a maximum of 25 lbs. (5-15 lbs. Usual) as a major job function
