This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 11 September 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 18 September 2025.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to Manager of the Surgical Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment. The Registered Practical Nurse is a highly skilled nurse that will be responsive to the staffing needs in the surgical inpatient units, providing pre- and post-operative care to a range of patient populations. As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing)
Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited college
Current B.C.L.S. certificate
Proven related and effective experience in a Surgical In-Patient Unit or similar environment
Recent experience in acute surgical care including PCA, Epidural management, central lines/TPN; chest tubes, management of complex wounds, ostomy care and management
Demonstrated self-motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership
Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the Surgical Program
Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with the use of mechanical lifts
Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
