As a member of the Paediatrics / Maternal Newborn and Child team, you will grow your nursing practice by:
Applying knowledge of nursingscience, process, and clinical judgment in the provision of safe, competent, compassionate, evidence-informed and patient-centered quality care.
Sharing knowledge and expertise with others, while advocating for and promoting health and well-being of patients.
Caring for your patients as part of a respectful, collaborative interprofessional care team.
Working to your full scope of practice while collaborating and consulting with the Registered Nurse and other members of the health care team.
Working with the MGH team to advance your nursing competencies through ongoing unit-based and corporate educational and professional development opportunities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work in collaboration with the entire healthcare team to provide optimal, ethical and patient/
family-centered nursing care; demonstrating compassion, responding to relevant ethical
issues on behalf of the patient/family and prioritizing care for multiple patients while still
ensuring each patient needs are met in a timely manner.
Establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to their practice,
and in turn contribute to the enhancement of quality careand patient safety, implementing
best practices at all times.
Required to work with each patient to understand the physical, psychological and social
needs, including working closely with family and the patient to understand patient health history.
In addition the RPN will be required to demonstrate effective problem solving and judgment to
address patient problems, including integrating multiple sources of information to inform clinical decision-making, care planning, coordinationand evaluation.
In partnership with the RN work closely with the Interprofessional team in helping the patient
and family with goal setting and development of a plan to meet these goals upto and including
a discharge plan. This includes working with a larger team of professionals to understand a
variety of perspectives and skills and collaborate with others on the core team to provide
optimal care to patients and families.
Required to identify opportunities for advocacy, healthpromotion and disease prevention with
individuals to whom they provide care while using best practice guidelines and current research.
Responsible for playing a role as a team member on all communication and shared decision
making with the patient, caregiver or other core nursing team members is done in a collaborative way to
ensurea strong rapport and well built trust are formulated, striving for mutual understanding and
facilitating a shared plan of care.
Work in collaboration with other units in the hospital to maintain patient flow and timely access to care.
Willingness to be cross trained to other units within the MNC portfolio and mental health programs.
EDUCATION
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and in good standing.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.
PEARS certification required. If you have not completed PEARS, the candidate must be willing to successfully complete PEARS certificate within 3 months of hire.
Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification required. If you have not completed NRP, the candidate must be willing to successfully complete NRP certificate within 3 months of hire.
Breastfeeding course completion an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
Paediatric experience, including paediatric consolidation placement and/or any proof of student externship experience, within the last year is required.
Blood procurement and IV start experience an asset.
Demonstrates knowledge of and willingness to work within a family centered care environment.
Demonstrates excellent skills and knowledge of growth and development with an ability to apply knowledge to nursing care.
Demonstrated knowledge of pain assessment in relation to the patients' age and clinical presentation.
Efficient computer skills, experience with Cerner is an asset.
Excellent interpersonal skills/able to relate to children and families with demonstrated organizational ability, problem-solving and decision making skills.
Must be willing to work in other areas of the Health Service, MNC and Mental Health Programs (skills and abilities considered).
Able to work independently and in a team environment.
Evidence of continuing education.
Motivated to pursue educational goals, teaching; leadership potential an asset.
Commitment to unit-specific education, and other training identified as necessary to practice safely and competently on the unit.
Good work and attendance record required.
