Job Description


The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

Must have the ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care.

This position will be required to work and train in any area of the Oncology Outpatient clinics or programs.

Education:

-Current College of Nurses certificate of competence required
-Current BCLS required
-RPN Oncology Nursing Certificate required

-de Souza Foundations in Oncology or equivalent required

-de Souza Complex Malignant Hematology course required

-Ontario Provincial standardized chemotherapy and biotherapy course an asset

Experience:

-Current progressive acute care nursing experience within the last two years required

-Recent experience in one of the following areas: oncology, palliative care or ambulatory care required

-Experience with peripheral IV insertion and maintenance required

-Experience with PICC management, blood product administration and wound care management required

-RPN Health Assessment or equivalent preferred

Competencies:

-Excellent organizational skills (oral & written), conflict resolution and decision-making skills

-Functions independently within scope of practice

-Must be willing to participate in continuing education programs

-Membership in RPNAO, CANO or equivalent preferred
