Job Summary
A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL), the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides primary care nursing to students in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario as well as the policies and procedures of Student Wellness Services (SWS) and Queen's University.
The current schedule of the SWS clinic, subject to change, requires the applicant to work occasional evening shifts. At present SWS does not offer weekend clinics.
This position provides initial front-line assessment, intake, and triage of students who present with a wide range of health concerns. This position performs specific nursing procedures or treatments independently or in accordance with medical directives or individual physicians' orders including dressing changes and wound care, administering injectable and oral medications, venipuncture, ear syringing, allergy injections, immunizations, oxygen therapy, blood work, ordering vaccines, and health education. This position also works with other professionals in the department, provides nursing care for less complex patients with predictable outcomes within scope of practice.
The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends. This position is subject to the Averaging provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.
What you will do

Performs specific nursing procedures or treatments independently or in accordance with medical directives or individual physicians' orders including dressing changes and wound care, administering injectable and oral medications, venipuncture, ear syringing, allergy injections, immunizations, oxygen therapy, blood work, ordering vaccines, and health education.
Works with other professionals in the department, provides nursing care for less complex patients with predictable outcomes within scope of practice, and consults with the Registered Nurse or Doctor when there is an increase in the complexity of care, environment or decision making.
Refers students to community agencies for specific services as needed.
Responds to enquiries from students and parents regarding health-related concerns.
Other duties as required in the support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
Two-Year Community College Diploma. In addition, requires on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
Required Experience
More than 2 years and up to and including 3 years of experience.
+ Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
+ Working knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) considered an asset.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Practical Nurse designation is required.
Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.
Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
Certification in first aid training considered an asset.
College of Nurses of Ontario membership considered an asset.
