This posting is for one (1) current vacancy.

This position is for the Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Program Team.



This position provides a range of client-centered health services to individuals, groups, and communities. The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team, and practices nursing autonomously to their full scope of practice in circumstances where there is predictability in the client's care requirements, care plan and health outcomes.



Qualifications:



EDUCATION

Successful completion of a College Diploma program in Practical Nursing as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education In good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

Knowledge of public health and nursing sciences and familiarity with legislation governing public health practices including, but not limited to, the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Immunization of School Pupils Act, and Child Care and Early Years Act. Experience working with an interdisciplinary team to plan and deliver public health services to individuals, groups and communities. Ability to apply and use evidence-informed best practices to guide work. Proven ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions where care needs are less complex, and outcomes are predictable. Knowledge of social determinants of health, health equity and impacts on population health Familiarity with provincial vaccination schedules, vaccine preventable diseases, vaccines and their administration, management of side effects. Familiarity with treatments such as, but not limited to, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing and counseling, birth control, clinic operations. Knowledge and experience using electronic communication systems and data management software. Ability to provide safe and effective nursing care both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team or group. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to develop productive working relationships with clients, peers and partners. Demonstration of courtesy, tact, effective listening skills, and ability to exchange appropriate information with clients, partners and staff as required. Organized with an ability to prioritize, plan, follow processes and manage time and work effectively. Understanding of continuous quality improvement processes and practices.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Required to maintain a current valid Ontario Driver's license and reliable access to an insured working vehicle. Required to maintain current CPR certificate and familiarity with general first aid principles. Ability to speak Low German or other languages is an asset but not required. Compliance with all Southwestern Public Health administrative policies, relevant program related policies and applicable provincial legislation.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with ONA Collective Agreement.

Salary Range:

$31.79/hr to $35.78/hr (70 hours in a two-week period).

All nurses at SWPH will be expected to remain knowledgeable, skillful, and ready to respond to public health and community-based needs through:

Outbreak response efforts (including but not limited to: Collecting and preparing specimens in urgent or emergent situations, case and contact management, etc.) Immunization programs (including seasonal campaigns) Other identified program needs that require nurses to work to their full scope of practice

A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.



Immunization Requirements:

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
