The Integrated Stroke Unit and Rehabilitation Inpatient is a 40 bed unit that oversees the acute care needs of patients that have had a stroke, and as soon as they are ready and appropriate for rehabilitation, moves them right into the intensive rehabilitation program. The unit provides best practice stroke care and follows evidence-based clinical pathways. The unit uses evidence-based screening tools, techniques, and equipment to develop each patients' needs and functional goals. The team consists of physicians, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, patient care assistants, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a discharge planner, social worker, a respiratory therapist, a speech language pathologist, a chaplain, unit clerks, and volunteers. Each member has a specific role to play to ensure seamless integration of care and together, they strive to provide exceptional care to each patient and family.
As the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) you are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the organizational philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the College of Nurses (CNO), and all relevant legislation. The role will be assigned to support the organization-wide Surge Plan for Surge Level 3. The reporting department will be Integrated Stroke, however these roles will be utilized to care for medicine patients assigned to beds in multiple clinical areas within RVH.
