Job Description

:

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Hospital, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation. The RPN is a professional Registered Practical Nurse with oncology specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help facilitate continuity of care and promote patient and family empowerment. The RPN identifies patient's health and supportive care needs to help patients anticipate and overcome barriers. The RPN establishes a therapeutic relationship to build trust and confidence with patients while providing education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer care continuum.


Education:




I. Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario required


II. Current BCLS required


III. De Souza Cancer Care Basics or equivalent an asset; requirement to obtain within 2 years of hire


IV. De Souza Patient Navigation Course or equivalent an asset; requirement to obtain within 2 years of hire


V. Continuing education courses specific to Oncology an asset


Experience:




I. Current progressive nursing experience in oncology and outpatient cancer clinics required with focus on procedural based clinics and interdisciplinary pod experience.


II. Adult teaching experience required


III. Acute care experience an asset


IV. Experience in surgical programs an asset


V. Ability and experience demonstrated through positive attendance, performance appraisals and work history


VI. RPN Health Assessment or equivalent preferred
