Position Summary




The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to residents at Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role involves assessing residents' health needs, providing direct nursing care, administering medications, and supporting residents' overall well-being. The RPN collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to ensure a safe, compassionate, and resident-centered approach to care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities




Provide direct nursing care to residents, including monitoring health status, administering medications, and performing treatments as per physician orders. Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Observe and report changes in residents' conditions, ensuring timely intervention and care adjustments. Promote resident safety, dignity, and independence while following infection prevention and control protocols. Educate residents and families on health conditions, medication management, and wellness strategies. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and resident responses in electronic medical records (EMRs). Respond to emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions as required. Ensure compliance with Long-Term Care regulations, standards, and facility policies and procedures. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance nursing practice.

Position Requirements




Education & Certifications:


Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college. Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse. Valid CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience:


Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RPN, preferably in long-term care, geriatrics, or a healthcare setting.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Clinical Expertise: Strong knowledge of geriatric care, chronic disease management, and palliative care. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams. Critical Thinking: Ability to assess residents' conditions, recognize changes, and respond with appropriate interventions. Collaboration: Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure holistic resident care. Time Management: Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple residents' care needs efficiently. Technical Proficiency: Experience using electronic medical records (EMRs) and healthcare documentation systems. Compassion: Ability to provide empathetic, person-centered care while fostering a respectful and supportive environment. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Ontario's LTC regulations, Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) standards, and best practices in nursing care. Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and composed in emotionally demanding situations.

Working Conditions




Work is performed within the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, involving direct contact with residents. This position requires shift work, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Potential exposure to infectious diseases, requiring adherence to infection control protocols. Cognitive demands include a high level of responsibility and attention to detail required in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of residents or medical equipment.
