About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Clinical Pharmacy Manager for the Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Network (ERIN) Therapeutics Team, the Registered Pharmacy Technician works as a member of the interprofessional team and participates in the provision of safe, competent, person and family centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the person are prioritized and individualized. Working within their legislated scope of practice and scope of employment, the Pharmacy Technician assumes responsibility for their own actions, are accountable to the public and contribute as a healthcare professional to fulfilling the interprofessional plan of care for patients with a focus on facilitating efficient and safe medication management processes. The Registered Pharmacy Technician functions are self-determined, assigned by leadership, a pharmacist, another Pharmacy Technician or as requested by other members of the healthcare team.

The position of Registered Pharmacy Technician - Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Teams is responsible for the coordination of technical components such as inventory management, distribution and documentation, and clinical support for pharmacists and interprofessional healthcare teams in relation to therapeutic consultations, assessments, prescribing and follow up practices. The Registered Pharmacy Technician supports workflow including monitoring email, voicemail and fax consults, and the collecting and documenting of relevant patient demographics, medication information and clinical information into a SharePoint database. The Registered Pharmacy Technician supports consult follow ups by helping to coordinate infusion therapies in ambulatory settings and long-term care facilities, through the preparation and documentation of medication profiles, in collaboration with patients, families and clinical pharmacists, using electronic databases such as the NS Drug Information System (DIS), and facilitates communication between the ERIN therapeutics team and various healthcare partners to streamline timing of drug delivery and administration. The Registered Pharmacy Technician supports the management and reporting of therapeutic and vaccination metrics, and various quality improvement projects as determined by the Emerging and Re-emerging Infections pharmacy leadership team. Last, the Registered Pharmacy Technician supports immunization strategies including managing vaccine inventory, coordinating and collaborating in the collection of consent information, preparing vaccine and the administration of vaccines, partnering with clinical pharmacist immunizers.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician with the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP) required
  • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within the Province of Nova Scotia will be considered
  • Drug administration by injection Technical Permit (for Pharmacy Technicians) required
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Experience and validation in medication reconciliation processes, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription, narcotic drugs and vaccines
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent / 100% FTE / 75 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Incentives

$24.84 - $27.56 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

*Qualified Registered technicians may be eligible for a signing/relocation bonus if application is successful.
