Registered Pcp Paramedic

Red Deer, AB, Canada

Job Description

Your Opportunity:

This position is part of the Overdose Prevention Site providing harm reduction and supervised consumption services in Red Deer. These services are part of an evidence-based, recovery-oriented system of care that supports prevention, harm reduction and treatment for individuals living with substance use challenges. The Overdose Prevention Site provides a place where people can use drugs in a monitored, hygienic environment to reduce harm from substance use while offering wrap-around services and referrals to services such as housing and treatment (e.g., opioid agonist therapy, detox, income support). As the Primary Care Provider (PCP), you will provide support to clients coping with substance use disorder and will work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team of Nurses, Paramedics, Client Care Assistants and Peer Support Workers. The role includes physical and mental health assessments, delivery of harm reduction supplies, supervised consumption clinical interventions (e.g. overdose response), naloxone distribution, health education and support, and referrals to other health & social services. Other duties may include distribution of safer sex and drug use supplies, and basic wound care. You will provide safe, quality patient centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. As a community partner, you will also provide information and education about the program to various stakeholders, families, and clients. This position also works closely with other services in supporting and coordination of care.

Description:

As an Emergency Medical Technician, you will transport ill or injured patients from scenes of emergency and/or between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation, assessing emergency scenes and patients. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as transfer vans, are properly stocked and equipped. Alberta Health Services EMS requires the proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed six (6) prior to the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test.
