Position Summary
:
The role of the sexual assault nurse examiner is to provide specialized and comprehensive nursing assessment and care to clients/patients who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic violence. This includes physical and emotional assessment, crisis intervention, collection of forensic evidence, medico-legal documentation, referrals for follow-up care and testimony in court when required. The sexual assault nurse examiner performs their role in accordance with the guidelines for sexual assault nurse examiner's set out by the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault Care Centers.
Position Requirements:
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Qualification.
Registered Nurse Certification.
Five (5) years demonstrated clinical assessment skills.
Three (3) years demonstrated decision making skills.
Working knowledge of violence against women.
Previous experience working with a multi-disciplinary team.
Incumbent shall be self-directed, self-confident, mature, and have a professional presentation.
Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
Preferred Requirements:
International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Certification.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners - Adult/Adolescent (SANE-A) Certification.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
