Your Opportunity:
The RAH ICU is a 29-bed unit characterized by high acuity and high occupancy. The ICU cares for critically ill patients from the medicine, surgery (including the regionalized thoracic surgery program), obstetrics, gynecologic, neurosurgical, and trauma programs. The unit provides evidence-based services within an inter-disciplinary team model. Specialized services include acute ventilatory support; continuous and intermittent renal replacement for acute and chronic renal failure, rhabdomyolysis, and sepsis; therapeutic plasma exchange for hematological and auto-immune disorders; and critical care support for the regional bariatric program. The Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams for the Royal Alexandra Hospital include nurses from the Intensive Care Unit. The RAH ICU is focused on continued Quality Improvement, providing a supportive environment for our staff and students, and providing patients with the best care possible. The Registered Nurse in this area is specially trained to be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the patients, and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. Nursing care will be administered safely and effectively, according to hospital policies and nursing care standards.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
Candidates without full critical care training and less than 1-year recent adult critical care experience will not be considered. A bachelor's degree in nursing or Diploma in Nursing is required. Candidates are required be fully trained in Adult Critical Care Nursing, including recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with a minimum 1 year (approx. 1900 hours) of adult critical care nursing experience. Certification and experience are required in countershock, care of the neurosurgical patient, emergency cardiac arrest management, transcutaneous and transvenous pacemakers, advanced hemodynamic management, massive transfusions, and trauma. Candidates must display excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to critically think. Leadership and proven mentorship skills are a must. Candidates must show the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. A commitment to providing quality patient and family centered care in a team environment must be demonstrated. Must demonstrate exceptional understanding of advanced team dynamic concepts and conflict management. Charge Nurse duties may be required following successful orientation to the role. Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications, training, or experience with the following are preferred: ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, intermittent hemodialysis and/or CRRT. Past participation and experience with Quality Improvement initiatives and demonstrated ongoing Professional Development related to Critical Care. Experience working with diverse communities or groups (i.e. ethno-cultural, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, etc.).
