The Opportunity



We are looking for

Registered Nurse (RN)

for our Walk-In Clinic at CUPS.

As a CUPS Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed nursing care to clients who are potentially experiencing the adverse effects of poverty, trauma and chronic illness. In your role, you will work to the full scope of your RN practice and assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards. You will play a primary role in supporting an integrated and holistic and client centred approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

CUPS RN's support the creation of safe and trauma informed health environment for clients and their families. This position champions supporting clients within the spectrum or recovery-oriented strategies and patient centered care, ensuring a safe and supportive healthcare environment for all clients.

HOURLY SALARY RATES:

$39.90 to $42.01

Key Responsibilities:



Provide safe, ethical, competent, culturally aware, and trauma-informed nursing care to clients in the walk-in clinic. Perform efficient and accurate triage to assess client needs and prioritize care based on urgency and acuity. Collaborate closely with the walk-in clinic team to ensure smooth clinic flow and timely client care. Monitor, record, and report the need for maintenance or repair of clinic equipment (e.g., ECG machine, liquid nitrogen tank, oxygen tanks, vaccine fridge). Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control (IPAC) within the clinic, including sterilization of instruments and adherence to cleaning protocols. Stay current with provincial laboratory and diagnostic routines Provide onsite lab coverage as required, including specimen collection, processing, and documentation. Support vaccine storage and handling according to public health guidelines. Respond to medical emergencies within the clinic and participate in safety drills and preparedness planning. Administers medication and intramuscular injections/treatments to clients and completes/maintains appropriate documentation

Create approachable, caring and trauma informed environment for clients accessing CUPS services Share nursing expertise with colleagues and client care teams to increase inter-team knowledge and understanding to support positive client health outcomes Contribute to safety and wellness of clients, colleagues and visitors by remaining up to date on and adhering to CUPS health & safety protocols Work collaboratively with team members within the department and across the organization Act as warden for client dignity by ensuring confidential client information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with HIPA and CUPS privacy protocols & values Act as ambassador of CUPS mission and values both internally and externally Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice through participation in quality improvement work

Organizational Alignment & Primary Duties



Provide on-going health care in an interdisciplinary team setting to clients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases such as mental health and substance use, communicable diseases, and/or general health issues Provide trauma informed health care to all patients within the RN Scope of practice as outlined by the CRNA practice standards Provide client centred support to clients who use substances, including those seeking education on safe use practices, harm reduction, withdrawal management, stabilization and/or sobriety Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, other health care professionals/providers and educational resources to achieve excellence in client-centered care and education Use harm reduction, culturally aware, and trauma-informed principles to conduct physical and mental health assessments, identify challenges, and address issues with the plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and any other health care services involved Provide direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care as part of the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with other service providers to establish, maintain and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect. All CUPS RN's may be required to support other nursing roles within the health clinic if staffing levels require it to continue clinic operations

Required Qualifications:



Completion of an accredited nursing education program Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) 3-5 years experience working in an acute-care environment Manage multiple priorities effectively, maintaining structure and efficiency in a dynamic work environment Analyze challenges, make sound decisions and implement solutions under pressure. Demonstrate patience and understanding for those with addictions and behavioral disorders. Well-developed clinical and physical assessment skills including experience with mental health assessments Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing needs Experience in primary care, urgent care, or emergency nursing preferred. Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Ability to communicate effectively with clients of various ages, socioeconomic status and ethnic backgrounds Ability to be self-directed and able to exercise independent nursing judgment Ability to respectfully collaborate with an interdisciplinary team Alignment with full spectrum of recovery-oriented strategies, from safer use to abstinence and Trauma-Informed Care principles. Current CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications:



Experience with Telus Collaborative Health Record (CHR) EMR Experience with substance use, mental health, and structurally marginalized populations Familiarity with Calgary acute care services and confidence with navigation of the ED Knowledge of community resources that can assist individuals who are low-income or homeless; including but not limited to mental health, housing and health resources in Calgary.

Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Basic First Aid and CPR Certification Police/RCMP Background and Vulnerable Sector Check
