We are an organization where individuals\' contributions are valued and there are many opportunities for personal growth and development.Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) is a member within the Regional Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre (SADVTC) under the Regional Women and Children Program.The RN is responsible for providing direct client care in accordance with the mission, vision, goals, objectives and policies of the hospital and the policies of the SADVTC. We are committed to the provision of excellent, unique and individualized service in the areas of sexual assault, domestic violence and child physical abuse and neglect. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach we recognize and respond to physical, psychological, social and medico-legal needs of individuals. SADVTC services are offered 24/7, 365 days per year.As this is a regional program covering Simcoe County and Muskoka, non-urgent services are offered to clients in locations that are in close proximity to their home community.Travel is involved.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Flexibility is required. Must be available for all shifts and on-call coverage.
  • Provide full weekend on-call coverage and shift rotation including days, evenings, and nights.
  • Provide emergency client care during shifts.
  • Participate in the Regional Centre for Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect (RCSCAN) paediatric clinics.
  • Provide client follow up services via telephone or booked visit, to sexual assault and domestic violence clients (includes documentation and workload measurement tools).
  • Refer clients to appropriate community resources / agencies during emergency visits, follow up, and telephone consults and requests for information.
  • Consult and collaborate with community resources, stakeholder agencies, regional health care partners and OSMH departments.
  • Ability to make intelligent, independent decisions and initiate appropriate action based on patient-focused best practice guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently within a peer support model.
  • Development, review and implementation of SADVTC medical directives, policies and procedures.
  • Development and implementation of community stakeholder and regional health care partner education relating to sexual assault and domestic violence care, treatment and prevention.
  • Participates in team defusing and debriefing.
  • Provide court testimony as needed.
  • Autonomous and self-directed with a thorough understanding of CNO standards related to documentation, scope of practice & duty to report obligations.
  • To be an active member of the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault / Domestic Violence Treatment Centre Nursing Committee.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Manager / Program Director.
Qualifications
  • Current certificate of Registration with Ontario College of Nurses required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing an asset.
  • Membership with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) an asset.
  • Membership with the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years\' experience working as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Minimum of (1) year experience as a Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Nurse.
  • Paediatric practice experience required
  • Current digital / computer forensic photography standards of practice an asset.
  • ODARA and HIV PEP research project knowledge & experience an asset.
  • Sexual assault and domestic violence outreach experiences is required
  • Knowledge of and collaborative experiences with community resources / stakeholders for assaulted clients\' is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills is required
  • A strong background in the use of Information Technology is required.
  • Positive work experience and attendance record required.
  • Completion of or possession of the Ontario Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) clinical practice training within 2 years of start date required.
  • Physical Assessment certification from a recognized college / university required.
  • Phlebotomy skills, knowledge and experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate proficiently in both Official Languages an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong communications skills in English, both written and verbal required.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately use equipment, including cameras and colposcope, in the documentation of injury and collection of evidence required.
  • Identify emergency medical conditions and make appropriate referrals.
  • Perform quality assurance functions to include: maintenance of chain of evidence, appropriateness of documentation, appropriateness of referrals, and interpreting reports as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multi task efficiently required.
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations as they arise required.
  • Demonstrated strong recollection skills and ability to chart in detail required.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standards, medical directives, policies and procedures required.
  • A valid driver\'s license and a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage to provide client care / services off-site required.
  • A clear police vulnerable sector check required.
