Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the Sechelt, Gibson, and Pender Health Unit in Sechelt, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Registered Nurse at VCH you will:

  • Utilize nursing knowledge and expertise of communicable disease control as it applies to vaccine-preventable diseases, and targets vaccine preventable diseases to promote and protect the optimal health, well-being and safety of all populations, including infants, children, youth, adults, older adults, and vulnerable populations.
  • Prepare for and conduct clinics in a variety of settings, provides related nursing care such as screening, informed consent, health teaching, and immunization for recommended and required vaccinations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services.
  • Conduct testing and case and contact tracing to support communicable disease control of targeted pathogens and viruses.
  • Support outbreak management by assessing individuals presenting with or at risk for communicable disease, communicating test results, educating and providing health information about disease process and transmission prevention measures.
  • Refer to other health care providers and services for further clinical care as needed. As needed, assists with monitoring active cases, conducting surveillance follow-ups, and monitoring laboratory reports for new cases.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Recent related experience working in public health, communicable disease control, vaccine preventable diseases or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver\'s License and access to a vehicle for local area travel.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to successfully complete provincial BCCDC full Immunization Competency Course Certificate.
  • Ability to successfully complete relevant VCH required education.
  • Ability to learn and complete clinical documentation in multiple electronic record systems.
  • Working knowledge of public health and population health approaches.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Professional and Practice standards for nursing.
  • Knowledge of the public health model and its approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of communicable disease control practices and procedures including: prevention, promotion, reporting responsibilities and related procedures and immunization practices
  • Knowledge of principles of health education, health promotion, and social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of community development and health promotion principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice autonomously in accordance with BCCNM standards and VCH policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work within autonomous scope of practice and Nurse Independent Activity (NIA) practice standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immunization protocols and communicable disease.
  • Demonstrated competence in organizing and implementing immunization campaigns.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, clients and their families, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities within a fast paced clinic setting.
  • Ability to update current knowledge and self-directed learning on vaccine preventable disease control
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques, and demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care, the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, care team and community partners and the ability to identify and facilitate community resources appropriate to clients\xe2\x80\x99 and families\xe2\x80\x99 needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to document timely and appropriate patient information and effectively use related computerized client care information systems, applications, and devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to model and mentor new staff and students.
  • Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
