In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.
The Registered Nurse - Perinatal, working collaboratively with the inter-professional team, plans and provides direct patient care to obstetrical patients during the intra, postpartum and high-risk antepartum periods and other assigned patients by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Days, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating)

Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town's Alpine setting. The main industries include forestry, tourism, transportation and agriculture. Smithers offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle. The population of Smithers is approximately 6,000, with an additional 5,000 from the surrounding communities that access services. Qualifications
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Completion of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program.
One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate
Current Fetal Health Surveillance Course Certificate
Skills and Abilities:
Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
Ability to recognize acuity changes.
Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory and expertise to provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety interventions.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional team.
Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
